We moved into our house a little over 5 years ago. Since that time we have had some very interesting things happen...why you ask? Well, it's because we live on the edge of the freaking hood! Only in our neighborhood could you see someone walking down the street in a hospital gown with a white plactic bag in their hand- and it be completely normal!!

Other interesting experiences we have had include, but are not limited to:

-registered sex offenders hot-dogging their trucks up and down the street

-police knocking on my door with pistol's drawn asking about a stray pit bull in my yard

-drive by shootings

-people knocking on my door at 3 a.m. asking if I have seen their dog

-people knocking on my door at 11 p.m. asking for "gas" money and then not being satisfied with the $3 I offer them

-people walking down the middle of the street at 2 a.m., screaming at the top of their lungs about who knows what as a car drives behind them at 1 mph

-multiple other stray dog incidents

-multiple occasions where people knocked on my door asking if they can stay the night

-cars running through stop signs, skidding to a halt, throwing beer bottles out the window and then peeling out

-possible drug deals going down in my front yard

-guys running stolen cars through my neighbor's fence

-my neighbor chasing down the guys who ran the stolen car through his fence

-the same neighbor pulling a gun on a dog

-multiple hit and run accidents

-more police cars and ambulance's stopped on my street than I can remember

-dumpster diggers and alley walkers galore

-don't forget my crazy neighbor Mabel, the folks across the street with the yard art, the guy with Alzheimer's around the corner and the street walking drunk right behind my house

There are other's I could list, but my head hurts just thinking about them. Sometimes I wonder if there is any other place quite like this patch of land. A place of street walkers and possible mafia members, of bass bumping Pontiac's and stray dogs. A place so much like home that random people ask to live with you or at least ask for your money. A place so magical that violence, car theft and hit and run accidents go hand in hand with neighborly bbq's, kids playing in the sprinkler and little families like mine. I am reminded of the Tom Hanks movie The Burbs, one of my favorite's, where the great 80's actor Corey Feldman says, after describing his neighborhood, "God I love this place".

Anybody want to come by for a visit?

Ah memories, I dont live there and have seen my fair share of cars running stop signs, bottoming out, bumbers scraping, loud music, numerous hoopties.

Its almost like you live in the Mos Eisley Cantina. What was it that Obi-Wan says about it, “Mos Isley Space Port; never will you find a more wretched hive of scum and villiany”

I love our neighborhood. At least our boxers, Petie and Daisy have lots to bark at. Great post.

don't even think about moving to safety ville. we live in the most textured zone known to man. if we move away, who will take care of the crazies?

if you move, i sware i'll show up on your safe porch in safe CS at 3am and demand a few "tall boys" and some cash!

I might even tee tee in your bushes.
